MIAMI -- Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant mentioned Saturday that San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich asked the future Hall of Famer to serve as somewhat of a mentor to budding superstar forward Kawhi Leonard.

Bryant and Popovich discussed Leonard after the Spurs' 106-102 win over the Lakers.

"[Popovich] wanted me to stay in his ear a little bit and talk to him a little bit," Bryant said. "I definitely, definitely, definitely will. I think he just has a tremendous amount of potential and he's only going to get better. If I can help him out in that regard, I most certainly will."

Leonard scored 20 points to go with 13 rebounds in helping the Spurs capture their 37th consecutive home victory dating back to last season.

"There are a lot of guys that young guys learn from," Popovich said Tuesday during San Antonio's shootaround at American Airlines Arena. "Kawhi has learned a lot from the guys that are vets on his own team. And Kobe is just another example of somebody that has been disciplined over time, and been a great pro in understanding the responsibility to bring it night after night after night. Kawhi sees that and understands that. He's trying to live that life."

Leonard appears to be succeeding. A four-year veteran, and first-time All-Star, Leonard is coming off his eighth double-double of the season and his third 20/10 outing. The Spurs own an 8-0 mark when Leonard registers a double-double.
