Kanye West made a very Kanye West return to Instagram after deleting his account last May, posting 55 photos in a row of iconic couples. The series ended with him and his wife Kim Kardashian, as expected. But an interesting omission in West's list—which included the Obamas, Kennedys, both Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and Brad and Jennifer Aniston—was Jay Z and Beyoncé. Jay Z and West are longtime friends and collaborators whose relationship was pretty publicly strained for most of last year.

West made several remarks about Jay Z during his concerts at the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017. But in November 2017, Jay Z himself told T magazine that while things are "complicated" between them, he and West were still talking. "I [talked to] Kanye the other day, just to tell him, like, he's my brother. I love Kanye. I do. It's a complicated relationship with us."

Jay Z explained further that yes, there's tension, but they will move past it—though West's Instagram omission of Jay Z now suggests they may not have yet.

"In the long relationship, you know, hopefully when we're 89 we look at this six months or whatever time and we laugh at that," he started. "You know what I'm saying? There's gonna be complications in the relationship that we have to get through. And the only way to get through that is we sit down and have a dialogue and say, 'These are the things that I'm uncomfortable with. These are the things that are unacceptable to me. This is what I feel.' I'm sure he feels that I've done things to him as well. You know what I'm saying? These are—I'm not a perfect human being by no stretch. You know."
