Group A
Spain 82, Brazil 63: Pau Gasol had 26 points and nine rebounds to lead Spain to a blowout victory in a critical matchup between top contenders. Spain raced out to a 15-4 lead in the opening minutes and was never seriously challenged from there. Full recap.
France 94, Egypt 55: After two nail-biters against Brazil and Serbia, France had to be thrilled to face an overmatched Egypt club. France led by 23 at halftime and won going away.
Serbia 83, Iran 70: Serbia couldn't handle former NBA center Hamed Haddadi, but the big man's 29 points on 10-for-12 shooting wasn't enough to carry Iran to a victory. Serbian center Miroslav Raduljica scored 13 points in just 17 minutes, and forward Nemanja Bjelica led Serbia with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Phoenix Suns draft pick Bogdan Bogdanovic added 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting. Iran fell to 0-3 while Serbia improved to 2-1 to keep pace with the top teams in the World Cup's most difficult group.
Group B
Senegal 77, Croatia 75: Following an opening game loss, Senegal has pulled off two straight upsets, beating Puerto Rico on Sunday before a more stunning win against Croatia on Monday. Once again, it was Minnesota Timberwolves forward Gorgui Dieng leading the way with 27 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. The win for Senegal pulled the team even with Croatia at 2-1. Sixers draft pick Dario Saric and Nets forward Bojan Bogdanovic scored 15 apiece for Croatia. Full recap.
Argentina 85, Philippines 81: In what nearly became the second upset of Monday, a proud but undermanned Philippines squad put a scare into Argentina by shooting 48 percent from three-point range. Luis Scola still scored 19 points to lead Argentina to a 2-1 mark, but the team needed a final defensive stop up two points with less than a minute to play. Ranidel de Ocampo scored 18 for the Philippines and Andray Blatche added 14 points and 15 rebounds as his team fell to 0-3.
Greece 90, Puerto Rico 79: A late Puerto Rico rally made this game interesting, but Greece eventually shut the door enough to move to 3-0 in pool play. Ineffective play from Kostas Papanikolaou meant we finally got to see Giannis Antetokounmpo in full flight. This is what resulted.
Puerto Rico, meanwhile, is still winless.
