CBS' The Big Bang Theory is the highest-performing show on network television, which is both good and bad. It's good because of ratings, obviously, but it's bad because the show following it in the lineup has tremendous shoes to fill. The network has struggled to find a show that can shine alongside the comedy on Thursday nights, but it might've just hit the jackpot: a Big Bang Theory prequel.
CBS announced in November that a BBT spin-off about Sheldon's early years was in the works but production was in very early stages. It seems things moved along quite nicely, though: The show (aptly titled Young Sheldon) will debut in the slot directly following The Big Bang Theory on Thursday nights this fall. CBS even gave a first look at the show at its Upfront presentation on Wednesday (May 17). Are you ready?

Yes, that's the adorable actor playing baby Sheldon. His name is Iain Armitage, who you probably recognize as Ziggy, Shailene Woodley's son in the HBO miniseries Big Little Lies.
Jim Parsons (adult Sheldon) will narrate this new 30-minute series, which centers on young Sheldon growing up in Texas and coming to terms with his supersonic math and science capabilities. (Those aren't exactly helpful attributes when you're a 9-year-old kid in a religious, football-centric suburban town). Fingers crossed baby Sheldon routinely gets in very heated debates with grown-ass men about evolution. (Let's just prepare to give him all the Emmys next year, to be honest.)

CBS will air a one-time preview episode of Young Sheldon on September 25 following BBT, and the series will officially kick off on November 2. Get excited.
