21 Books Goodreads Users Are Damn Excited To Read This Fall

    The books everyone's going to be talking about this season.

    Goodreads recently let BuzzFeed know which books its users are adding to their shelves and loving so far this fall.

    Each title on the list below has a 4.0-star or higher rating, so you know they've gotta be good.

    1. My Absolute Darling by Gabriel Tallent, a novel about 14-year-old Turtle, whose isolated existence on the California coast is blown open when she meets a high-school boy named Jacob.

    2. Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward is set on a farm on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, and brings us into the world of young Jojo and his troubled family.

    3. In Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng, single mother and artist Mia arrives in suburban Cleveland with a disregard for the status quo, much to the dismay of many who become determined to uncover her past.

    4. Five-Carat Soul by James McBride, a National Book Award Winner, contains five short stories.

    5. They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera is a story of two strangers who find out they're going to die on the same day, and decide to go on one last adventure, together.

    6. Warcross by Marie Lu is about a game that's become a way of life, particularly for teenage hacker Emika Chen who tracks down players who bet on the game illegally.

    7. Turtles All the Way Down by John Green is the story of 16-year-old Aza who, along with her best friend, sets out to uncover the mystery of a fugitive billionaire's son.

    8. La Belle Sauvage by Philip Pullman is a novel about 11-year old Malcolm and his dæmon Asta, as they learn they're no longer alone but have a baby with them.

    9. From Here to Eternity: Traveling the World to Find the Good Death by mortician Caitlin Doughty explores the ways different cultures care for their dead.

    10. We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy by Ta-Nehisi Coates features essays previously published in The Atlantic and un-published essays, which revisit each year of the Obama administration.

    11. Waiting for the Punch: Words to Live by from the WTF Podcast by comedian Marc Maron features interviews from the WTF podcast.

    12. Soonish: Ten Emerging Technologies That’ll Improve and/or Ruin Everything by Kelly and Zach Weinersmith looks at technologies from ten different emerging fields to see what the future holds.

    13. Lie to Me by J.T. Ellison introduces Sutton and Ethan Montclair, then explores the mystery and speculation surrounding death of their child and Sutton herself.

    16. The Last Ballad by Wiley Cash is set in 1929 in North Carolina and is inspired by actual events during a time when workers and women were fighting for their rights.

    17. Chasing Red by Isabelle Ronin is a love story that begins with a red dress.

    18. Without Merit by Colleen Hoover is a novel about Merit Voss who meets witty - and completely unavailable -Sagan while collecting trophies she did not win.

    19. The Black Tides of Heaven by J.Y. Yang is one of two books in the Tensorate series and focuses on the lives of twins Mokoya and Akeha, who were sold to the Grand Monastery as children.

    20. Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado is a collection of short stories that explore body horror, feminism, and erotica.

    21. Artemis by Andy Weir is set on Artemis, the first city on the moon, where protagonist Jazz sees the opportunity to commit the perfect crime.
