"Ragamuffins" in New York during the 30s, the Thanksgiving Day precursors to trick-or-treaters on Halloween, which took hold in the 40s and 50s. Ragamuffins would dress up, often in oversize clothes of their parents, and ask neighbors and adults on the street, "Anything for Thanksgiving?" The usual response would be pennies, an apple, or a piece of candy. The triptych photo is at Bleecker and Perry Street. Don't know the specific locations of the others.
