Ebates, a popular San Francisco, California-based cashback website company, conducted a survey to determine which devices people want this holiday season. One of the most interesting findings from the study was that teenagers prefer the iPhone and adults prefer the Samsung Galaxy S8.

The survey says that 35% of teenagers wanted the iPhone X or the iPhone 8 compared to 20% of adults for the iPhone X and 22% of adults for the iPhone 8. And 38% of adults want to receive the Samsung Galaxy S8 on Christmas. Propeller Insights conducted the national survey on behalf of Ebates -- which sampled 1,034 adults and 507 teens. Here is a breakdown of the smartphone numbers:

Coincidentally, Samsung recently released a new ad campaign called “Grow up with an upgrade to Galaxy.” In that ad, Samsung makes it a point that Apple is constantly playing catch-up to the Galaxy features whether it makes devices that are waterproof or have wireless charging support.

One of the hottest gifts this year is Beats wireless earbuds as it is the number one trendy teen gift at 44%. And 28% of American parents are planning to purchase a pair. This year, 47% of teenage boys want a drone and 52% of girls want a Polaroid camera. Here are the numbers for some of the other gifts listed in the survey:

Fidget spinners are expected to take a hit this year. Only 15% of teenagers have fidget spinners on the wish list and 27% of parents think that it is still a trending gift this year.

What about gifts outside of consumer electronics? Both adults and teens voted for gift cards at 77%. When the survey respondents were asked which type of gift card they prefer, it was money in the form of a Visa, American Express or MasterCard at 72%. Restaurant gift cards received 59% of the votes and retailers received 51% of votes. One-third of women voted for spa treatment gift cards.

Adults voted for clothing at 49%, shoes at 35% and accessories at 31%. Teenagers voted clothing at 63%, shoes at 55% and accessories at 44%. Another popular gift for Americans are getaways at 32%. In fact, 72% of the respondents said that they would prefer a holiday getaway rather than a gift.

"Our holiday survey found that, when it comes to holiday gifts, you can’t go wrong with a gift card—although a laptop or earbuds are also safe choices,” said Ebates CEO Amit Patel in a statement. “At Ebates, we want to make it as easy as possible to purchase all your gifts and save money while doing it. From gift cards to fidget spinners, our retailers have you covered.”

This holiday season, one in five Americans will spend between $250-$500 on gifts this year. The survey respondents that are planning to spend $750-$1,000 was 17% and 18% are planning to spend over $1,000.
