Jim Lovell, Fred Haise, and Jack Swaggert turned around what could have been one of the biggest tragedies in space exploration history into a heroic recovery during the Apollo 13 mission. The trio has been the subject of a hit movie, but now they have garnered the highest honor of all: They're all going to be LEGO minifigures.

Minifigs.me created the custom astronauts, who are available alongside mission control flight director Gene Kranz, who helped the team from below. Minifigs isn't quite a LEGO authorized site, so there's no Command Service Module for the Minifigs to make a brave rescue in. Instead, there's just this rather odd way to signal the 45th anniversary of Lovell and team's quick thinking.

Like the other Apollo missions (from 11 on, at least), the trio were destined to land on the moon, but an oxygen tank explosion severely hobbled the craft. They made it back to Earth thanks to quick thinking.

The minifigures are based on the astronauts' real likenesses—not Tom Hanks, Gary Sinese, and Kevin Bacon. The three astronauts don't come cheap. It costs a little under $60 for the set, currency converted. And Kranz alone is around $25.
