Thoreau - “If a plant cannot live according to its nature; it dies; and so a man.” The author states that a certain system in nature is in place where two different plants can live in a kind of harmony where they exist within their own means, and do not overpower the other in greed. He connects this to humanity to compare the idea that we are currently destroying our harmony with one another, such as plants may under a corrupt system. This image connects the concept of plants and gives an image to the illustration that Thoreau paints.
