Acetaminophen -- an active ingredient in Tylenol and other painkillers -- can help numb your aches and pains, but a new study found it could also affect your ability to empathize.
A recent study published in the Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience found that college students who took acetaminophen displayed less empathetic responses to scenarios presented to them, when compared to similar participants who had not taken the drug.
With roughly 23 percent of American adults taking Tylenol each week, the research has received significant attention. But before you sound the alarm, doctors have encouraged more research to substantiate the claims before anyone changes their medication regimen.
