The giant spaceship is nearing completion.
Apple’s new headquarters—uninspiringly named “Apple Campus 2″—in Cupertino, California, appears to be nearly finished, as new drone footage recently shot at the work site shows.
The new main campus takes the shape of a massive metal donut, and from this video, it appears most of the structural work is done. Workers are installing solar panels on the roof, glass on the curved exterior of the building, and beginning to landscape the area inside and out of the donut. There are also additional buildings on the campus, such as Apple’s new research facility, and the two massive parking garages—all with solar panels for roofs—that are being finished up as well.
In May, CEO Tim Cook told journalists assembled at a press event to launch the iPhone SE and the smaller iPad Pro that it was likely to be the last time they convened in the room they were in in Apple’s old campus. But in November, Apple hosted its MacBook Pro launch event in that room as well. Apple was always slated to move into the campus in 2017, so perhaps Cook was just trying to get people excited. Hopefully Campus 2 doesn’t befall the same production setbacks that seem to be afflicting Apple’s new AirPods headphones, which still haven’t been given a release date.
