Chargers vs. Broncos: Betting odds, preview and prediction for 'Thursday Night Football'

Two of the AFC's top teams collide as the Denver Broncos host the San Diego Chargers.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The San Diego Chargers are 4-2 straight up and 6-0 against the spread in their last six games as a road underdog. The Chargers face a very difficult road test as an underdog this Thursday night against the Denver Broncos. Denver is a 7.5-point home favorite at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. San Diego's strong road play and recent success against the Broncos make the Chargers a live underdog this Thursday night.

San Diego entered last week's game against Kansas City with a 10-2 SU and ATS record over its previous 12 games. But Kansas City was able to break the Chargers' five-game win streak with a 23-20 win in San Diego. The Chargers had scored at least 31 points in each of their previous three games before hitting a wall against the Chiefs. San Diego is 7-2 ATS in its last nine games against AFC West opponents.

OddsShark Computer Prediction: San Diego 31.3, Denver 30

Denver hosts San Diego at 8:25 p.m. ET on Thursday at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

Peyton Manning wasted little time in breaking Brett Favre's touchdown record last week against San Francisco, eventually finishing the day with four touchdowns and 318 yards in the 42-17 rout. Denver's overtime loss to Seattle seems to have served as a wake-up call for the Broncos, who are 3-0 SU and ATS since that game with three double-digit wins while averaging 38 points per game. The Broncos will try to snap out of a 6-19-1 slump in their last 26 home games against AFC West opponents.

Thursday night's total is set at 51 points at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The under is 5-0 in San Diego's last five games as a road underdog and 4-0 in Denver's last four games against division rivals.

San Diego is 3-1 ATS in its last four games against the Broncos. Seven of the last eight meetings between these two teams have been decided by eight points or less. Perhaps none of this will matter with the level that Manning is playing at right now, but these two rivals always seem to play close games, giving San Diego the betting edge at +7.5.
