The new Dragon Ball game lets you create your own custom Super Saiyan

Bandai Namco's Dragon Ball Xenoverse will give fans of Akira Torayama's manga and anime series the chance to play with their own original, customizable character and "dive into Dragon Ball history" with that character for the first time.

At a pre-Tokyo Game Show press event, Masahiro Kashino of developer Dimps Corporation confirmed that players will be able to create custom playable characters in Dragon Ball Xenoverse and interact with established characters, like Goku and Vegeta. Players will be able to customize their character's race, gender, head, weight and costumes.

And because players will be able to play as women Saiyan, Xenoverse will give many fans the chance to see a female Super Saiyan in action for the first time.

"I'd like the Dragon Ball fans' dreams come true in this game," Kashino said during a presentation at Bandai Namco. "In Japan, all the children are practicing the kamehameha in their bedrooms... all of them! In this game, your dreams come true, you can make your own character and do the kamehameha."

In Xenoverse, the history of Dragon Ball has been altered. In the battle between Goku, Raditz and Piccolo, Kid Gohan's attack on Raditz is dodged and Piccolo's special beam cannon attack manages to strike only Goku. The player, summoned by the dragon Shenron, is tasked with traveling through the Dragon Ball timeline and correcting history.

The primary antagonists of Dragon Ball Xenoverse are new characters Towa and Mira, who also appear in the Asia-only MMORPG Dragon Ball Online. They're the ones responsible for altering history, and two other characters, TokiToki and the Supreme Kai of Time, command the player to fix it.

Players will be able to study under Dragon Ball masters, like Goku and Vegeta, who will in turn aid their character in battle. They'll also be able to visit the futuristic Tokitoki City, meet up with other players and take on cooperative, time-traveling missions.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse is coming to PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC via Steam, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. A network test for the PS3 version is coming soon, Kashino said.
