EA apologises for 'unnecessary' and 'stupid' April Fool

EA has apologised for April Fool's tweets that came from the Frostbite game engine's Twitter account.

You might know Frostbite from the games which use it -- the

Battlefield series and the Mirror's Edge sequel, for example. The tweets have since been deleted but originally offered such snippets as: "Frostbite now runs on the #WiiU since it is the most powerful Gen4 platform, our renderer is now optimized for Mario and Zelda."

And: "Good news, we have finally fixed and optimized our

'netcode'. Uses quantum entanglement for Zero Latency connections.

Exclusively on #WiiU."

In a world where the rest of the gaming industry was pulling pranks involving collectible Pokémon, Titanfall/Transformers crossovers and Blizzard announcing that the secret to success lay in 'HotS' acronyms Frostbite's tweets came across as surprisingly mean-spirited.

EA's COO Peter Moore has since been forced to apologise, stating "Our apologies to partners @NintendoAmerica & fans

@FrostbiteEngine's poor attempt at April Fools not condoned by EA: unacceptable/stupid."
