A police officer in Richmond, Virginia has gone viral after an incident on Thursday, in which African-American middle schoolers filmed him shouting, "Wait until your assess turn 18. Then you're mine."

Cameron Hilliard, the eighth-grade student who posted the incident, said that someone shouted "f**k the police" as the officer pulled up in a squad car as she and her friends were walking to an after-school activity. She said that the shout had not been any of her friends.

The officer's threat highlights the school-to-prison pipeline, whereby African-American children are more likely to be arrested and charged for offenses that white kids simply receive counseling or psychiatric treatment for.

According to NBC News, Richmond mayor Levar Stoney issued a statement condemning the officer's actions. "I trust that the Richmond Police Department will conduct a quick and thorough investigation and respond accordingly," said Stoney. "This behavior is unacceptable. It reinforces stereotypes of our communities that are hurtful and damages the relationship between our police department and the citizens they are charged to serve."
