Stand-up comic Brody Stevens dies by suicide in Los Angeles home aged 48

Brody was found dead in his home on Friday (Picture: WireImage) Brody Stevens, a US stand-up comic and actor, has died by apparent suicide, it has been reported. The 48-year-old star was found in his LA home on Friday afternoon. Brody had been making a name for himself as a stand-up comedian around California and had made several recurring appearances on TV. This included voicing a role on American Dad, appearing twice on Comedy Bang Bang, and a frequent guest star on Comedy Central’s The Kroll Show. The star had previously been hospitalised with bipolar in 2011, and he turned the experience into a TV show in 2013 (Picture: Michael Schwartz/WireImage) He had also landed major movie roles including parts one and two of The Hangover franchise. Stevens had publicly struggled with his mental health and was hospitalised in 2011 after suffering a bad episode related to his bipolar disorder. In 2013, he united with Zach Galifianakis to create Comedy Central series Brody Stevens: Enjoy It!, a which focused on him putting his life back together after suffering a public breakdown. His last public performance was at the Comedy Store on California’s Sunset Strip, just two days before his body was found. Stars including Patton Oswalt have posted their condolences online and urged fans to speak up if they are struggling with their own mental health. He wrote: ‘If you are depressed or feeling suicidal please please please please please reach out to ANYONE. I never get to see Brody Stevens again I can’t stand this. #RIPBrodyStevens #818ForLife’ Among the condolences, comedian Ron Funches dubbed Brody a ‘brilliant weirdo’ while others shared fond memories of him helping them out in their time of need.
