Protect Your Facebook Account Against Hackers By Turning On This Security Feature

Are you always worried that unauthorized people may already be logging in and out of your Facebook account and regularly checking your private messages without you having any clue about it?

Well, did you know that Facebook has a nifty security feature that can add a strong layer of protection for your account against these crafty social media hackers?

And with it, you can finally bid your paranoia goodbye!

Yup, it's called 'Log-In Approval via SMS Code' and it's really easy to turn on and use. You just need to have a phone that can receive text messages.

Basically, it works like this: Every time you or somebody logs in to your account from a new device using the correct password, Facebook will send your registered number a verification code as a secondary sign-in requirement. Without this code, the person trying to enter the account will remain locked out.

This means that even if a hacker somehow manages to get your FB password, he or she won't be able to log-in to your account without having access to your phone.

Here's how you turn on this security feature using your desktop:

1. Log-in to your account and go to your Settings:

2. Under Settings, go to Security section.

3. In Security Setting, click on Edit  Login Approvals.

4. To edit or tweak Login Approvals settings, you will have to re-type your Facebook password.

5. If you haven't added a cellphone number to your account, Facebook will ask for that too.

6. Tick the box for 'Require a login code to access account from unknown browsers' and Save Changes.

7. Wait for a text message from Facebook on your registered number to get your confirmation code for turning on Login Approvals. Give FB the code when it asks for it.

8. Facebook will text you a Login Approval Code every time you sign in to your account on a new device, including other desktops, smartphones, or tablets.

Side Note: The only down side to turning on this security feature is that you'd have to make sure that your phone is always with you when you're travelling and you need to log-in to your Facebook account on other devices. But thankfully, there's a way to get around that:

Just repeat steps 1 to 6 and click on 'Get Codes' link to grab 10 emergency codes that you can use to enter your FB account when your handset is not with you. You can print those out or write them down on a small piece of paper that you can keep in your wallet. You can also email the emergency codes to yourself if you have a Gmail account with a strong two-step sign-in verification.
