Angels' Mike Trout undergoes surgery for torn ligament, miss 6-8 weeks
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout will miss 6-8 weeks after choosing to undergo surgery to treat the torn ligament in his left thumb.
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout tore a ligament in his left thumb and underwent surgery on Wednesday, the team announced.
The injury occurred during Sunday's game against the Miami Marlins as Trout attempted to steal second base by sliding headfirst. The outfielder had an MRI on Monday.
Trout could miss anywhere from six to eight weeks due to the surgery. Trout was 0 for 2 when he exited Sunday's game.
The Angels went 4–6 on their 10–game road trip and return home 10 games back of the first-place Houston Astros in the AL West.
Trout, the reigning American League Most Valuable Player, leads the AL in slugging, OPS, walks, and is tied for the league lead in home runs with 16. His 36 RBI's are fourth in the league.
