Ubisoft have confirmed that Nintendo will publish Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle in Japan and Korea.

Now there’s a sentence I never thought I’d write. What times we live in.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle has been a huge success since its release last month, and is already the best-selling third-party title on the Nintendo Switch.

Although the appearance of Mario and his Mushroom Kingdom pals have certainly helped its performance, it’s also a solid game full to the brim with good-natured humour, and some surprisingly deep tactical gameplay.

There’s potential for Mario + Rabbids to achieve even great success in Asia, where the Rabbids franchise is more widely ‘adored’, than it is in the US or UK. According to Ubisoft, the Rabbids TV show recently passed one billion views in China alone.

Satoru Shibata, president of Nintendo of Europe, chipped in with this statement on the news:

“We were very happy to see that players across Europe enjoyed the unexpected combination of Mario, Rabbids and strategy in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle for Nintendo Switch. We hope that players in Japan and Korea will also enjoy the game when it is released there in January next year.”

Alain Corre, executive director at Ubisoft, added:

“Nintendo publishing Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle in Japan and Korea shows that they appreciate the quality of the Rabbids brand and this game, and have high expectations for them in markets they know better than anyone else. Nintendo have been an amazing partner throughout the game’s development game, and now, thanks to them, Switch owners in Japan will join in on the fun with millions of other players around the world.”

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is out now in most regions, and will be released in Japan and Korea on January 18th, 2018.
