The Ferrari 355 Engine Is Arrestingly Beautiful

The Ferrari 355's flat-plane V8 is one of the most powerful engines of its era, and one of the best-sounding as well. Turns out it's pretty in its own right.

You're looking at the Tipo F129b, used from '94 through '98. 3496cc, 380 horsepower at 8250 rpm, 268 lb-ft at 6000 rpm.

As was en vogue for the time, the engine came with five valves per cylinder and, among other things, absolutely gorgeous intakes.

I'd never seen them before, because they're hidden away under twin air boxes when they're properly mounted in the car.

I'm not entirely convinced this engine ever needs to go in a car. I'd be happy having it in my living room.
