Illinois to require cybersecurity training for all state employees
Illinois will now require cybersecurity awareness training for all state employees, thanks to legislation signed Monday.
“Cybersecurity is no longer just an IT issue. It is a public safety issue, and we will do all we can to protect the residents and infrastructure of our state,” said Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) at a press conference celebrating the new law.
Illinois becomes the 15th state requiring such training.
{mosads}The Prairie State anticipates savings as high as millions of dollars from the legislation. A press release announcing the legislation cites a study estimating that in business environments, training costing around $5 per employee can return an average of $184 in cost avoidance.
Illinois’s Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) has already trained more than 47,000 of 50,000 state employees, according to Rauner. DoIT will now be required to provide this training annually.
