Apple launches a battery replacement program for its iPhone 5 handset
After initiating a replacement program for its iPhone 5 handset’s sleep button back in April, Apple has launched a new program for faulty iPhone 5 batteries after identifying that a “limited” number of devices are suffering battery-related problems.
The company explains:
Apple has determined that a very small percentage of iPhone 5 devices may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently. The affected iPhone 5 devices were sold between September 2012 and January 2013 and fall within a limited serial number range.
You can check your iPhone 5 handset’s serial number at Apple’s website; if affected, your device will qualify for a free battery replacement. The program launched in the United States and China on Aug. 22, and it’s scheduled to launch internationally on Aug. 29.
