The Weather Channel Unveils A Brand New iOS 7 Redesign

April 24, 2014

The Weather Channel Interactive has just pushed the button on a brand new iOS 7 redesign for its free iPhone application. Besides launching an impressive new look, a selection of social features have also been added to the application, radar maps are faster, and navigation has been enhanced.

You can download The Weather Channel 6.0.0 now free of charge on the App Store, and the recently updated application is optimized for the iPhone and iPod touch. The redesign is definitely a big improvement on the previous version of the application, and it looks great running alongside Apple's iOS 7.

Take a look:

However, an iOS 7 optimizing redesign isn’t all The Weather Channel has added to its app. A social weather feature, too, has also made an appearance, and this puts a crowd-sourcing spin on how the application gathers information for “hard-to-predict” areas. The Weather Channel Interactive explains in the app’s release notes:

Share your weather conditions with us! We will use that information to identify hard-to-predict spots to improve the forecast for those areas. Plus, whenever you report your weather, you can take and share a photo of your current weather. We’ll keep track of them so you’ll have a personalized weather history.

The developer adds that improved navigation has also made an appearance in the app update: “swiping right to left allows you to browse your saved locations, whereas the detailed forecasts and stories can be viewed by swiping up and down. Check out detailed weather conditions by tapping the circle on the main screen.”

Plus, radar maps are now “faster than ever,” according to The Weather Channel Interactive, and finally a brand new app icon has launched in the updated app, too.

The changes have yet to reach The Weather Channel’s iPad application, though we’re hoping the app will receive a similar update in the near future. We’ll keep you posted on this front.

In the meantime, The Weather Channel 6.0.0 is available to download now free of charge for the iPhone and iPod touch.
