Professor Layton’s next game hits mobile first this summer

The 3DS version’s Western release date is unknown

The next game in the Professor Layton series heads West in July, Level-5 announced. What was previously known as Lady Layton: The Millionaire Ariadone’s Conspiracy has been renamed Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaire’s Conspiracy, and it launches on iOS and Android July 20.

The mobile version will be a worldwide release, with a variety of languages available on launch day. Layton’s Mystery Journey will have microtransactions, although it won’t be free to play. The game itself will be much the same as the Nintendo 3DS release, which Nintendo showed off during this week’s Direct presentation. Watch that new trailer above.

Smartphone gaming-averse Layton fans can hold out for the Nintendo 3DS version, but they may be waiting for awhile. Japan is getting the handheld release well ahead of other regions. Level-5 has neglected to say when Layton’s Mystery Journey is coming to the West, although a 2017 launch date is still expected.

Unlike previous Layton games, this one stars his daughter, Katriel. She’s as skilled a sleuth as her old man, although we’d argue that her partners in mystery-solving — a boy her age and a dog — aren’t quite as cute as her dad’s best bud Luke.

The next level of puzzles.
