Royce Da 5'9" and Black Thought are undoubtedly two of the most skilled lyricists we got. Put them together and the result really is "Rap on Steroids." Under the duo name Black and Nickle, the Detroit and Philly spitters pair up for a new banger dropped earlier this week (March 29).

Up first, Royce attacks the Jahlil Beats-produced track, warning competitors just how dealing with the duo on wax will go.

"Niggas ask if Black and Nickle get together for an album, what you gon' get?You gon' get rap on steroids, rap on steroids/Niggas that's silencers on the nozzle/You won't feel the clap, you'll only hear the noise".

As Royce continues his lyrical gymnastics ("I just spit more clairvoyant raps/Than it take to make you half paranoid") and reggae artist Assassin comes in with a raspy hook, The Roots leader comes in to one up his companion on the second verse.

"Got a twin brother like Irv Gotti, I'm Bobby/He probably back on steroids/Kinda like crack on steroids/Lou Ferrigno, super negro/Gon' and pack your steroids/Nigga my memoir's red walls/Everything I do is fine art/Putting rappers in that pine box/When that Black and Nickel Nine spark".

The hard-hitting new single comes direct from Royce Da 5'9"'s newest mixtape, Tabernacle: Trust The Shooter. Released earlier this week, the tape is a preview to Royce's new album Layers, expected to drop on April 15.

Unlike this track, Layers will be executive produced by Denaun Porter of D12, a frequent collaborator of the rap vet. Royce seems to fare well in a musical duo structure. He linked up with DJ Premier back in 2014 to form a duo and drop the collab album PRhyme. Layers will be Royce's first solo effort in five years.
