Anton Yelchin: Star Trek Beyond's Zachary Quinto honors costar on Late Show

During an appearance on The Late Show, Zachary Quinto honored his Star Trek Beyond costar Anton Yelchin, who died last month at the age of 27.

“I don’t even know how to talk about it,” he told host Stephen Colbert. “We already knew that this would be a really bitter-sweet experience because of the loss of Leonard [Nimoy] last year, but this has been absolutely devestating for all of us.”

He added, “I think our goal has to be to just celebrate his incredible life and honor him as much as we can. It was a terrible loss, not only to us personally, but I think to the industry and audiences. He was such a talent.”

Quinto and the cast of the latest Star Trek reboot have been working on these films together since J.J. Abrams’ first installment in 2009. The actor reiterated to Colbert that they all consider themselves family. “We are truly intertwined,” he said, “and I think we always will be.”

Yelchin’s self-proclaimed “Star Trek family,” including his Beyond director Justin Lin and fellow actors, paid tribute to their “little brother” following his passing. “We loved Anton, at work or at play,” a joint statement read in part. “We are all shocked and numb and devastated by the world’s loss of an extraordinary young man.”
