Ocasio-Cortez: ‘At what point is Fox News obligated to not lie?’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Thursday blasted Fox News for saying she and a group of House Democrats were unable to hand-deliver a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) because they went to the wrong office.

Ocasio-Cortez shared a tweet that included a Fox News clip of her listing all the places she and her colleagues went looking for McConnell on Wednesday afternoon: the Capitol, the Russell Senate Office Building, the Senate floor and the Senate GOP cloakroom.

{mosads}The footage of her remarks was followed by a Fox News reporter Peter Doocy saying, “They couldn’t find him because the lawmakers went to the wrong office. McConnell works out of the majority leader’s space in the Capitol, which the lawmakers would’ve needed to pass on their way to the Senate side to try to make their point.”

Ocasio-Cortez shot back on Twitter.

“As I say *in the clip you posted* we WENT to the majority leader’s office – he was absent,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “So we decided to drop letters off at almost every place he could run (including the GOP break room). At what point is Fox News obligated to not lie? And more importantly, #WheresMitch?”

In a statement, Doocy said, “In an earlier segment today, I played a clip of Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez saying in her own words that she had been looking for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, recorded at McConnell’s Russell office. I then stated after the clip that they went to the wrong place, simply meaning that he wasn’t there at the time nor was he in any of the places they outlined in the clip that we played. They didn’t have anything set up with McConnell’s team which is why they couldn’t locate him and what I was ultimately trying to explain to our viewers.”

The Democratic lawmakers were delivering a letter urging McConnell to help reopen the government, which has been partially shut down since Dec. 22.

President Trump and congressional Democrats are at an impasse over Trump’s demand for more than $5 billion for his proposed border wall.
