Cyberpunk 2077 looks amazing at night

Was the original trailer too bright for you? Check out Night City after dark.

When fans saw the first trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 at this year’s E3, a vocal minority was upset that it looked too bright. Even author William Gibson thought it was missing a certain something. As it turns out, that something was a complete day and night lighting cycle.

Today’s world premiere gameplay trailer, which came in around 48 minutes long, was narratively the same as what the press was shown at this year’s E3. The only difference was the lighting, which included deeper shadows and more substantive high dynamic range lighting than was shown in Los Angeles.

The real kicker comes in the last two minutes of the video, which shows off Night City at night for the first time. You can see that clip embedded above.

There’s still no release date for Cyberpunk 2077, but the community of fans on Reddit is aggressively trying to decode a hidden message from today’s livestream.
