Gang in Rutherglen street attack on two victims

Two men needed hospital treatment after being assaulted in Lanarkshire.

The pair, aged 30 and 32, were attacked by a group of men near the Dubliner and Sportsman pubs in Rutherglen's Glasgow Road.

The incident took place at about 14:15 on Saturday.

The victims were treated for injuries to their heads and bodies before they being released from hospital. The gang who carried out the attack were aged between 17 and 25, police said.

Det Con Euan Wallace said: "We are trying to establish a motive for this vicious attack and obviously trying to identify those involved."

He said the street would have been "extremely busy" at the time, and urged anyone who saw the incident to contact the police.
