Seven Banksy Works Removed from Public Walls; To Be Auctioned Off

It’s easy to forget that Banksy‘s art didn’t exactly come to prominence in the gallery circuit, but rather established a reputation on the streets. Despite all the accolades and popular collaborations, much of Banksy’s work still exists on the greater plane – in alleyways and forgotten billboards – for the public viewer to acknowledge and appreciate. Seven of these works have been claimed by an organization called Sincura Group, who has removed the pieces from public buildings and walls and will auction them off. The group, which previously removed and sold Banksy’s Slave Labor work, was approached by building owners to remove the pieces, and doesn’t profit from their sale. The seven pieces have been valued at between about $250,000 and $1.7 million USD. Head over to The New York Times for more on this story.
