Iconic Cars From Your Favorite Movies, Reimagined as Transformers

Classic pop culture vehicles like Ecto-1 and Scooby-Doo's Mystery Machine are cool. But you know what makes them cooler? Turning them into Transformers.

If there's one thing about a movie or TV show that often becomes as iconic as the stars appearing in it, it's the automobiles they share the screen with. (Really cool watches are a close second.) Ecto-1 in Ghostbusters, Kitt from Knight Rider, the DeLorean in Back to the Future, the Scooby gang's Mystery Machine—these rides are as famous as the characters they carry.

Now, those classic cars have finally (finally) been brought together with pop culture's other much-beloved modes of transportation: the Transformers. The illustrations were posted on Tumblr by Darren Rawlings as part of a series called If They Could Transform. "My next little series that I’ve decided to do for fun … taking iconic vehicles from old shows and creating a robot form for them," Rawlings wrote in an introductory post. "It's a good excuse to draw robots while practicing drawing vehicles!"

Rawlings' first bit of awesomeness was the General Lee from Dukes of Hazzard. The artist and illustrator went on to, um, transform the Party Wagon from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Mach Five from Speed Racer, and even the van from The Partridge Family. (Check out all of them on Rawlings' DeviantArt page and a few key selections above.) It's quite an impressive endeavor, but, seriously, where's the Batmobile? Was it already enough of a shape-shifter that it didn't warrant a Autobot adaptation? Rawlings, we think we have your next project.
