Meet Peggy, the Smart Clothespin

Peggy is a smart clothespin that promises to "revolutionize the way you do your laundry," at least in Australia.

These days, everything is getting smarter, even ridiculously basic items. The latest device to get a high-tech makeover? Clothespins.

An Australian laundry detergent brand called OMO just unveiled "Peggy," a smart clothespin that promises to "revolutionize the way you do your laundry," ensuring that you never again leave your clean clothes on the line when it starts to rain.

This is not your mama's standard wooden pin: Peggy boasts fancy features like light, temperature, and humidity sensors as well as Wi-Fi, a lithium-ion battery, and USB charging port. It connects to your smartphone and tells you when your clothes are finished drying.

Peggy also checks the weather to let you know if it's okay to dry your clothes outside. It will tell you the best time to wash your clothes, how long it will take to dry them outside (based on the current weather), and will alert you if conditions change.

"Rain clouds are on the way," the app may warn you, for instance. "Let's dry the washing inside or try tomorrow."

Sound like something you need in your life? Peggy is currently in testing, but if you're interested you can sign up to be one of the first people to get your hands on the smart clothespin. At this point, there's no word on pricing or whether Peggy will be available outside of Australia.

At CES in January we spotted another gadget aimed at easing your laundry woes: Laundroid, described as the world's first laundry-folding robot. You throw your crumpled clothes in a bottom bin like a pull-out freezer, and they're moved up to shelves neatly folded.
