We may know Xiaomi best for its growing range of affordable smartphones, but company close observers will also no doubt be aware that Xiaomi is no stranger to venturing into new, seemingly unrelated markets. There are already Mi branded TV’s, air-conditioners, and drones on the market, and the company has just unveiled its Mi Qicycle, an electric bycycle.

The Mi Qicycle was developed by Xiaomi backed start-up iRiding. The bicycle features a 3-speed hub and 250W 36V pedal assist motor, which is able to manage up to 28 miles (45 kilometers) on a single charge. The Mi Qicycle weighs in at 14.5kg and can be folded in half for easy storage or transportation on public transport. The bicycle also features Bluetooth technology, which can be used to connect the bike up to a smartphone companion app. This app can tell you about the status of the bicycle, statistics about your journeys, and GPS navigation. The Qicycle itself also has a small display on the handlebar to show information including the time, current speed, and battery status.

In typical Xiaomi fashion, the Mi Qicycle is also much more affordable than many competiting products on the market. The bicycle costs just 2,999 Yuan (approximately USD 460), but unfortunatley it will be unlikely to go on sale outside of China. iRiding had previously released a much more expensive 19,999 Yuan Qicycle R1 back in March, but this time they’ve been allowed to use the popular Mi branding for the launch of its consumer model. Those who are in China can use the Xiaomi Mijia app to back the crowdfunding campaign and purchase a bike.
