PSN Down: Users Reporting Problems On PS4

This article is more than 7 years old.

Update: Down again. It seems more and more likely that this is related to a massive attack on DNS host Dyn, which is causing outages in all sorts of servers all over the world.

Update: Things appear to be back, but we'll let you know if that changes.

Millions of PS4 players hoping to hop into the newly released Battlefield 1 seem to be out of luck this morning, as is anyone hoping for some futuristic combat in the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare beta. Two of the biggest shooters out there may have been too much for PSN, and it appears that people all across social media are reporting problems logging onto Sony's online service.  The official Playstation Network status page currently lists Playstation Store as having issues, but I've been unable to access any online services at all, and many across the Internet appear to be experiencing the same problem.

There are also reports of broader internet problems throughout the east coast, and this could be related if some of the servers have been effected. We've contacted Sony and will update with any new information, but there's yet to be any official word. Server outages are a fact of life for online gaming, unfortunately, but both the PS4 and the Xbox One are so deeply tied to their respective services that it can become pretty impossible to do anything at all without an internet connection.

For right now, we're assuming that this is just the increased traffic resulting from the simultaneous release of Battlefield 1 and the Infinite Warfare beta, and that it will be resolved soon. Keep checking back, however: some outages have been known to go on for a while.
