A Tribe Called Quest’s final album, We got it from Here... Thank You 4 Your service, received zero nominations at the 2018 Grammys. Shortly after the nominations were revealed, Q-Tip responded to the snub on social media, stating, “Fuck da grammys!!!” Today, on “Sway in the Morning,” Tribe’s Ali Shaheed Muhammad and longtime collaborator Consequence acknowledged and echoed Tip’s comments. “Just to be honest with y’all,” Consequence says, “We all thought we was going home with the statue.”

Muhammad then responds to Grammy Chair Emeritus Jimmy Jam’s argument that the group was already acknowledged with their performance at the 2017 ceremony. “To say that the group performed and that should be your consolation prize, I think is very disrespectful to the art that you put forth,” Muhammad says.

At another point, Cons notes that the album was Phife Dawg’s “last effort on Earth,” adding, “I want you to understand the magnitude of that.” He later says, “They fucked up.... Anybody that come back 18 years after a hiatus and performs the year before, naturally you would assume that I should have something on my mantle in about 12 months!” Watch the interview below.

At the ceremony, Dave Chappelle shouted out Tribe while presenting the award for Best Rap Album (which went to Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN.). Recently, ATCQ shared the trailer for their “final video” for their We got it from Here track “The Space Program.”
