The art museum showcasing the private collection of jeans moguls Maurice and Paul Marciano is set to open this month in the former Scottish Rite Masonic Temple on Wilshire Boulevard.
The Marciano Art Foundation’s website says the museum will open May 25. And, the Larchmont Buzz reports there will be two exhibits: one, a display of items from the Marciano brothers’ collection, and the other, “the first West Coast institutional solo show of Jim Shaw entitled ‘The Wig Museum.’”
The Buzz notes that most neighborhood residents who have had the chance preview the museum seem impressed with the building’s dramatic transformation, specifically in the former temple theater, which has been “gutted” and is now a very large and raw space.
The Marciano brothers bought the temple, which is located near Rossmore, in 2013.It was built in 1961 and designed by architectural designer and artist Millard Sheets.
Not long after it was purchased by the Marcianos, wHY Architecture signed on to renovate the 100,000-square-foot space so that it could be used to display art from the brothers’ private collection. In 2014, renderings of the planned minimalist interiors were released. The new museum will be called the Marciano Art Foundation.
Tickets to the museum are free and available now, but reservations are required. Parking is also free.
