Kid hits half-court shot to beat Russell Westbrook 1-on-1 at basketball camp

On Friday, Russell Westbrook’s wife, Nina, shared video of her husband blowing by one of his campers for a strong slam dunk. These sorts of videos are normal in the summer when NBA players host basketball camps and entertain their students with fun one-on-one competitions.

On Saturday, video of a camper actually beating Westbrook was shared by Jacob Padilla (h/t SB Nation). Padilla wrote that the kid is a seventh grader named Kyle and that he hit a half-court shot as the game point.

First, Kyle tries to drive it to the hoop, but he gets blocked. Next, Kyle backs way up to the half-court line, Westbrook doesn’t step up to guard him, so he swishes the deep Steph Curry-range shot.

Westbrook is a great sport about it all. He stands motionless as if in disbelief, then goes to high-five Kyle. He also gives the kid a hug and claps for him. Kyle got more than his money’s worth from that camp session.
