One of my Elite Program clients was recently offered her dream job. (Yay!)
She will be managing a big team of people located all over the country. She has never managed a team of this magnitude, and her biggest fear is whether or not she will be a good leader to this team and make a positive impact.
We recently had a coaching session on ways she can overcome fear and step into the leadership mindset.
The reality is, being a leader is not 9-to-5 job. You don't simply click on the "leadership" switch when you get to the office, then click it off when you leave.
Leadership doesn't work that way.
I believe leadership is a way of living. I define it as the ability to move toward your vision and accomplish what you desire.
Are you good "leader" material?
Yes, you are good leader material.
Every person on this planet is the leader of his or her own life.
Regardless of your age, gender, or hierarchy in an organization, you are the leader of your life.
Don't allow anyone to take away that power from you, especially yourself.
As author and activist Alice Walker said, "The most common way people give up their
power is by thinking they don't have any."
Here's how to start acting like a leader of your life:
- Have a vision of your life and who you want to be.
- Take responsibility for the choices and decisions you have made and will make.
- Own who you are and accept who you are not.
- Be respectful and generous to everyone.
- Acknowledge that your actions matter and affect others, even when you can't see it.
- Be yourself and embrace your own leadership style.
Start with asking yourself, "What kind of leader do I want to be?"
So, what kind of leader do you want to be? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
