Stuart Scott inducted into UNC’s Journalism Hall of Fame

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has inducted the late ESPN reporter Stuart Scott to the North Carolina Journalism Hall of Fame.

Scott was diagnosed with cancer in November 2007. He received ESPN’s Jimmy V. Perseverance Award at the ESPY Awards in 2014 before passing away at the age of 49 on Jan. 4, 2015.

“Stuart Scott was an original who defined his brand of sports reporting,” UNC School of Media and Journalism Susan King said. “He challenged the generation after him to be authentic and to find their voices as broadcasters. That may be his strongest professional legacy.”

Scott graduated from UNC in 1987 with a degree in radio, television and motion pictures. Scott also served as the university's commencement speaker in 2001. 

Scott’s sister, Susan, was presented with the award marking his induction into the UNC Journalism Hall of Fame on Friday afternoon.
