All Tesla patents are now free-to-use, because Elon Musk is a saint

Elon Musk has had his fair share of controversial banter, which has cost him and his company heavily over the past couple of years. But even with that, he deserves a lot of credit for what he's done, and what he is trying to achieve. And just when we thought that our love for him couldn't get any higher, he outdid himself in a move which may hurt Tesla but will help the world!

In a blog post released over the weekend (which I highly recommend you read), Musk announced that all of Tesla’s patents are available to the public for whoever, wants to use them in good faith. Tesla Motors is way ahead of the competition, when it comes to making electric cars, and a move like this could seem self-sabotaging. But, Musk explained that the thought behind this move in a tweet, that is definitely going to surprise a few and delight many.

But honestly, looking at the slow pace of how the world is yet adapting to electric vehicles, patents by Tesla available to all will help small scale/large scale companies to manufacture these vehicles easier. He believes in sharing the knowledge to help the world, be a better place.

It seems like he doesn't see other EV manufacturers as competition, but rather, the other mass majority of conventional fuel cars as the real enemy of this vision. According to him, more electric vehicles on the road is better for the world, and more important than Tesla holding a monopoly over the market. And of course, just because another automaker gets access to the knowledge that only Tesla had hitherto, doesn’t mean they will be able to catch up and make better EVs, but should definitely help them reach there faster.

Tesla's mission is to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy

He further added that he was a big believer in patents helping smaller growing companies but has over time understood that it just helps a company avoid lawsuits and other legal complications. This is the biggest incident of patent open-sourcing that we have seen, and it comes at a time when more people are getting serious about moving towards sustainable energy sources. There are practically no real Tesla competitors yet, with them enjoying a crazy majority in the markets they are operating in.

Elon Musk is truly the hero we need, not the one we deserve.
