Are Fillers in Your 30s the Key to Preventing Aging? featured image

In this day and age, it’s totally common, normal and accepted for women in their 30s to get fillers and injectables. While some turn to these doctor-administered treatments to augment their features, others shell out big bucks for their age-reversing abilities. So, we had to ask the experts if getting fillers early on is really the key to prevent aging.

According to Laguna Woods, CA, facial plastic surgeon Corey Yeh, MD, the most popular fillers amongst younger patients are those that contain hyaluronic acid, like Juvéderm and Restylane. Because these products contain hyaluronic acid, which is also naturally found in the skin, they tend to create a very smooth surface within the skin.

In terms of volume, which we all lose as we get older, restoring minimal amounts along the way may help to offset a more dramatic deflated look that can appear with time. “The most common areas treated in women in their 30s in my practice is the lower eyelid area and tear trough area,” says Dr. Yeh. “In patients who are just start to see volume loss along their infraoribtal rim, as well as their lips and cheekbones, injecting these areas can enhance projection and restore volume.” The more volume in the face, the less likely you are to see flatness and loss of definition due to aging. “To a lesser degree, cheek and temple augmentation in the 30s can be of benefit to help restore lost volume from the aging process or to improve naturally occurring asymmetries,” says Scottsdale, AZ, facial plastic surgeon Kelly Bomer, MD.

Just because you opt for fillers in your 30s, doesn’t mean that you’ll stop the aging process entirely, but you may delay certain parts of it. “The aging process continues even after the first session of filler. Often for women in their 30s, the frequency for filler is every six months to a year. It’s variable depending on the person, how quickly they are aging and how well their tissues hold onto the filler,” says Dr. Bomer. “It’s possible that using filler along with taking care of your skin daily with medical-grade skin care, sun protection, engaging in skin treatments to prevent sagging, wrinkling and discoloration and a healthy lifestyle can help maintain a nice contour in the neck and jawline and possibly prevent surgery at a later date.”
