  • Creative writing (Learning new information) My visit to the body world exhibit was engrossing as the exhibit used real (deceased) human bodies to show all of its functions. It went over the respiratory system, nervous system, reproductive system, skeletal system, muscular system, circulatory system, and the excretory system. Each portion was dedicated to one of the systems and contained a real system on display. It helped me to visually see how each system works- I could see all of the nerves and how they connected to the brain or how dark in color a smoker’s lungs become. Each displayed body were from donors that dedicated their body to the exhibit.

I learned many things from this exhibit about the human body. I didn't know before that the skin is also the heaviest organ in your body, not just the largest. Different parts of you brain require a different amount of white and grey matter depending on their function and only playing sports cannot keep your brain healthy enough as a child. Also, I learned that Australia is also dealing with a pretty major obesity epidemic because, like America, they are becoming prosperous as a country. I also learned about Cardiomyopathy, a disease where the heart is not proportional to the body, and how it can over pump arteries in the person’s body. Excess of cholesterol and glucose in the human body can lead to blood clots as well as diabetes. Joint damage is caused from over using a specific joint, causing the cartilage to wear out and possibly wearing down the bone. One interesting fact from history in the exhibit is that Leonardo Da Vinci thought that sperm came from a man’s brain and traveled down to the reproductive areas. Overall, I believe I have learned a lot more about the human body and feel like I understand it better as well.

I went with my family through the exhibit and got to see many different body systems. We could interact with a couple of the models- one of which showed me the effects of lifting heavy objects on your joints. There was a collection of images with families and their different diets. Each family was from a different part of the world and it really reflected the obesity affects in the area. Many of the bodies were shown with plates that explained ideas about blood clots and obesity concentrations of certain areas. What was the most amazing part was the body articulations each statue was in. Everybody was in a different acrobatic pose- bodies posed in a leaned forward position or posing in a tai chi pose. There were also samples of bones from different human bodies as well as slices of a brain to show the difference in gray and white matter. In addition, they had preserved blood cells into different body shapes; the black, ashy lungs of a smoker; and a nervous system still attached to the brain. https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vSNTd25JlqDDjWUV50VrxdzUXtfP1stY-qrFIuWAjcXQX050zFAiOCkVMfR8juOFr-qfsRsHhziFyqy/pub
