‘Riverdale’ Gets All ‘Twin Peaks’ In Its First Trailer

Ah, Archie. In an industry rife with reboots, costume changes that get more revealing, and guns, it’s nice to know that Riverdale never changes. Unless it gets a series on the CW, in which case, all bets are off, as this trailer illustrates.

Riverdale stars the Archie crew but puts them at the center of a murder mystery. Jason Blossom (yes, Cheryl Blossom’s brother) turns up dead and the gang finds themselves sucked into a mystery that touches on a host of problems. Who killed him? What tie does it have to the secrets under the placid town full of diners and sock hops? And is there a larger mystery?

Believe it or not, this really isn’t Hollywood doing whatever they want with some rights. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who wrote the first two episodes, is one of the key creators who’ve helped make over Archie Comics with books like Afterlife With Archie and The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina. Aguirre-Sacasa absolutely loves deconstructing and reassembling Archie tropes and even got in trouble for it in 2003, with his play Archie’s Weird Fantasy, which got him a cease-and-desist letter since it was all about America’s wholesome ginger realizing he was gay. We’ll see just what he, and the CW, have in store for the gang when Riverdale premieres January 26th.
