An easy way to jazz up your wall is finding a nice frame for some nice art – I’ve found a lovely one and created this green DIY Leaf Art for you.

DIY Leaf Art Step-By-Step

Materialer:

Ramme

Palmeblad

Trin 1

Princippet er såre enkelt. Hver palme “strimmel” bøjes i en 45 graders vinkel

Trin 2

Trin 3

Næste strimmel flettes modsat, altså under og over, skiftevis

Trin 4

DIY Leaf Art Tutorial

Supplies:

Frame

Palm leaf

Step 1

The technique is called plain weave. Begin by folding the blade in a 45-degree angle

Step 2

Alternate going over-under for each palm frond

Step 3

Repeat with the next frond, over-under pattern that’s the opposite of your first line

Step 4

Repeat steps 1-3 to continuing to braid the palm fronds until you’ve reached the end of the frond

Same procedure goes for the opposite side

I just love when I can create something special with a few supplies and this one, it’s oh SO simple!

Leaf Art Final Result

Why not try doing some petal/ leaf patchwork?  This simple piece of plant art will enhance any room.

Or affix it on a card or make a foliage mobile!

  10. How do you keep it green?

    • Hi MI.
The gratifying when pressing flowers and foliage is the fact that it most likely over time will change.
I’ve used a Palm Areca leaf and it’ll retain color best if you pick early, younger and fresher leaves. But the green colour will fade, you can choose to see that as a kind of sympathetic form of art:-)
      Best,
      Mete

  11. I simply love these and can’t wait to try it — simple (and possibly naive) question — Won’t the leaves turn brown after a while??

Thank you SO much! You’ll love making the weaving part, it’s so much fun and really easy:-) I’ve used a Palm Areca leaf and it’ll retain colour best if you pick early, younger and fresher leaves. But the green colour will fade as time goes by, you can choose to see that as a kind of sympathetic form of art:-)
      Happy creating!

  12. Very beautiful!I would love to try this. Is the leaf glued to the Plexiglass or is it between two glass frames?

The MOEBE frame consists of 2 pieces of plexiglass, so I have’t used any glue, the leaf is layers between the acrylic sheets.
      Enjoy your day!

    • Hi Linn-Marie.

  24. What a fantastic way to decorate a frame!
I have one question: after some days, the leaf gets rotten and turns brown? Or it stills forever?
    Thank you so much! 🙂

    • Dear Sandra.
Thank you so much for your kind comment!

      🙂
But if you preserve the leaf (same procedure as pressing flowers) it WILL remain green!!!
So happy crafting it’s so easy,
      Best,

  26. Hello,

Where did you get a frame like that? I would love to try it for our bathroom.

    Thank you!

  27. This is gorgeous!
a couple questions: did you use a real leaf? if so, for how long did it keep green? and lastly, did you secure the leaf between glass or acrylic?
Thank you so much in advance. I will try this diy for sure. xx

  28. Do you have a technique that would protect the color of the leaves as they dry? This project looks amazing!

  29. That is so lovely ! I’m going to share your post on my blog ! 😉

  30. Will this last? Or will it turn brown, or worse?

  31. Doesn’t the more solid leaf picture n the background get mouldy? The picture that’s not as lacey and open as the palm frond… very pretty though

  32. Hello!

This DIY looks awesome and I can imagine pressing flowers using this method as well!

May I know where did you get the frame from? Thank you!!

  33. Such a unique way to brighten up the apartment walls! I have so many cool palms around my place in Honolulu. Trying this project tonight!

  34. awesome, i love it 🙂

  35. as you hold the leaf, some glue?

    • Hi Glad.
I didn’t used any glue, the two glass pieces did the job for me. But of course, just add a dab of glue if needed.
      Best,
      Mette

  36. this is fabulous i love it so much keep it uo

  37. What a great idea, soon will make it enhance my room nuance 😉 , btw how to make sure the leaf won’t be faded?

  38. Hello! How do you ensure the leaf stays green?

    Thanks!

    • Dear Isabella.
I’ve used a Palm Areca leaf and it’ll retain colour best if you pick early younger and fresher leaves. The green colour will fade a tiny bit as time goes by, but just follow the same procedure as pressing flowers.
Place the weaved leaf between book pages and you’ll get the freshest and most beautiful result. Hope that helped and happy weaving, I’m sure you’ll love it.
Wishing you a beautiful rest of your day!
      Best,
      Mette

  39. The leaves are beautiful, how do you keep them from drying out and becoming brittle?

  40. Where did you get these stunning frames for these 2 pieces? Or what are they called because I’d love to get some. Thank you for sharing this incredible idea!! I am obsessed

  41. Love, love love this DIY tutorial. Thanks for sharing.

  42. Hvor er det smukt

Hvordan sætter man det fast i rammen?

  43. seeing this beautiful ,but simple, piece of art was very inspiring. I could not wait to see who had made this and subscribe to your website. I love any craft that is simple, but the end result looks like you have spent hours doing it. Plus like most people these days, I don’t have the money to spend on a lot of items to make something. With this all you have to do is go outside and get a leaf. Of course, if you aren’t lucky enough to have palm trees outside your home, you can go outside and find a leaf that will give you an inspiration I’m sure.

  44. I am so thankful to you for the English translation. Some of us can only read English. Beautiful project!
