Two acclaimed performers are joining a DeKalb County commissioner on Thursday for a program celebrating Black History Month and Martin Luther King Jr.

The free event, titled "Martin and Music" and hosted by District 5 Commissioner Mereda Davis Johnson, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Porter Sanford III Performing Arts & Community Center.

The show features Broadway singer Charles Holt and Shakespearean actor Gerald C. Rivers, according to Johnson’s office.

The event is described as a night of “message, music and storytelling,” which “sets ablaze the words and life of one of the world’s greatest civil rights leaders and orators.”

The event is sponsored by several local politicians including Congressman Hank Johnson and state representatives Becky Evans and Vernon Jones.
