How do you get people — especially kids — interested in the important subject of human rights? A Canadian museum thinks it has found a way.

XOXO: An Exhibit About Love and Forgiveness” continues through Jan. 3 at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg.

It uses hands-on displays to help children explore concepts related to human dignity, equality and respect.

Children, with their parents in tow, will be urged to consider a range of emotions – from happiness to anger to sadness – and to think about notions of love and forgiveness as they play at several interactive stations.

Museum president and chief executive John Young said he hopes to prompt family discussions about how people treat one another and perhaps help spawn a new generation of defenders of human rights.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is dedicated to the evolution, celebration and future of human rights. It is open Tuesdays-Sundays.

Admission is about $11.30, about $6 for those 7-17. A family of four pays $32.80 for two adults and two children.

Not planning to visit the Canadian prairie as winter takes hold? The museum also features an online game, Making Meaning: Images and Perceptions, that introduces people to the ways in which human rights history can be manipulated or reinforced.
