Amazon launches virtual Pimp my Ride-style hub to let you design your dream car

Amazon Vehicles also shows reviews but stops short of letting you buy your designs

Amazon has launched a forum for petrolheads to discuss, research and design their dream car.

Called Amazon Vehicles, it lets you view almost any car, from vintage Mustangs to new Teslas, and alter its engine and colour, for example, to make your ideal vehicle.

However, the virtual showroom stops short of letting users buy their creation.

Described as a “car research destination and automotive community” by Amazon, a large part of Amazon Vehicles is letting people review and read reviews about thousands of new and classic car models, giving an insight before users go to a physical car showroom to look at them.

Users can view the cars’ specifications, images, videos and customer views, by searching by make, model, customer rating, miles per gallon or towing capacity, for example.

They can also add their own reviews to the thousands already there and ask car owners questions such as: “Can you fit two car seats comfortably?”

“Our goal is to support customers during one of the most important, research-intensive purchases in their lives by helping them make informed decisions every step of the way,” said Adam Goetsch, Director of Automotive at Amazon.com.

Amazon Vehicles is a great resource for customers who are interested in car information or looking for a broad selection of parts and accessories – all enhanced by the ability to tap into the knowledge, opinions, and experiences of other car owners within the Amazon customer community.”

Amazon Vehicles is intended to sit alongside the retailer’s Automotive and Garage offerings – a marketplace for buying car parts and place to store information about cars a user owns, respectively.

The company said more than 35 million customers have already saved their cars to the Amazon Garage.
