One Nation: Support for Pauline Hanson's party crashes in first election poll

The past fortnight has not been a good one for Pauline Hanson's One Nation but there are two big winners from the party's poll dive.

Support for Pauline Hanson’s One Nation has crashed over the past fortnight as last month's revelations senior party figures sought support from the US gun lobby continue to take a toll.

In Monday’s Newspoll conducted for The Australian newspaper, the conservative minor party's vote had slumped nationally to just 4 per cent, its lowest level since 2016.

That marked a 2 per cent decline over the past two weeks and follows a high of 11 per cent of the national primary vote just two years ago.

The poll is the first to be conducted since Prime Minister Scott Morrison called the election last week.

The benefits seem to have flowed equally to the major parties which are now both on a primary vote of 39 per cent each.

Neck and neck

However, Labor remains ahead of the Coalition in the two-party-preferred race, with a lead of 52 per cent to 48 per cent.

One Nation's slump comes after the broadcast of an Al Jazeera documentary that featured secretly filmed footage appearing to show senior party figures James Ashby and Bruce Dickson soliciting millions of dollars in donations from US gun lobby group the NRA.

It also follows party leader Pauline Hanson's emergency visit to hospital to have her appendix removed.

But she is back in action and on the campaign trail today.
