Painting your walls is definitely an undertaking, but not quite as much of an undertaking as figuring out what paint color you want to use.
Selecting a paint color has traditionally entailed heading down to your local paint shop to color swatches or samples and holding them up against the wall to try and figure out how the wall would look covered in the color in question. Now thanks so AI, you can do that from your couch.
ColorSnap
ColorSnap is the creation of Sherwin-Willians. The app (obviously) only includes Sherwin-William’s paints, but it can let you visualize your walls in any one of its 1500 colors. If you’ve found a color you like, pretty much anywhere, the app can also help you match that color in paint.
For instance, if you love the color of one of your throw pillows, or a background color in a picture, or your cat you can snap a pic and find a matching Sherwin-Williams paint color.
ColorSmart
ColorSmart is relatively the same thing as ColorSnap, except made by Behr paints. With it you can find the color you’re looking for as well as see how a particular color selection might look. Unlike Sherwin-William’s version however, you won’t be able to see what the paint looks like on your wall, just a wall, which might not be quite as helpful.
Paint My Place
Paint My Place works with Benjamin Moore, Dulux, and Farrow & Ball paints. With it, you can “paint” a wall in your home In a color using your finger. It can be difficult to get this precise, which can be annoying, but it does help you get a general idea on how something might look.
The app itself is free, but it’s ad-supported which can lead to a complicated user experience.
Benjamin Moore also has an app called Color Capture that can help you find a paint color that matches a color you’ve found elsewhere.
