Watch the trailer for Erykah Badu’s new skate film

The singer takes a starring role in the Nas-produced movie, with Kanye West on soundtrack duties

The first trailer for Nas-produced skate drama The Land has dropped.

The film, which was announced at the end of last year, follows a group of Cleveland skateboarders who pursue their dreams of making it as professionals. It stars both Erykah Badu and The Wire’s Michael K. Williams, with the former reportedly taking on the role of concerned mum ‘Turquoise’. Emerging filmmaker Steve Caple Jr. is on board as the writer and director.

“(I’m a) huge fan of my man Steve Caple Jr,” revealed Nas, who worked as the movie’s executive producer. “I think he can become the next great filmmaker. (I’m) also, very excited to be working with my former agent and friend Charles King on his first film with his new venture. All great energy around the film, which I believe will yield amazing results.”

The Land – which got rave reviews when it appeared at Sundance in January – also includes soundtrack contributions from Kanye West, Pusha T, Jeremih, and Nosaj Thing. Tracks from Badu and Nas will also be included.
